Dr. Wei Si Nic Yiu 姚煒詩 (They/ Them) is a queer transnational feminist scholar of gender, sexuality, and labor. They received their Ph.D. in Gender Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, in June 2025. Nic’s broad research interests include gender and migration, race and class, labor, and care. Their current research examines Chinese women massage workers’ experience and negotiation of working conditions in the context of racialized and sexualized Asian massage work.
Their work is informed and inspired by their migration experiences in Hong Kong, Beijing, Toronto, and now Los Angeles. Their research has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in Canada and the Wenner-Gren Foundation. Their work has been published in Women's Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies, the Journal of Lesbian Studies, Rethinking Women’s and Gender Studies Volume 2, the Journal of Homosexuality, and more. Outside of academic life, you can find Nic playing with cats at the Stray Cat Alliance, sipping on tea with young queer people at ProjectQ, or reading graphic novels under the sun.
